From Our Founder

Dear Friends and Families,

Word of Honor Fund remains dedicated to supporting the Gold Star and Surviving children of the Naval Special Warfare community. Our focus on Milestone activities for our children and their Mentors is constant, especially during these unprecedented times.

Over the past year, we adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic by refining our approach in new and creative ways. We continued our mission safely and responsibly
by following public safety measures. We worked closely with our supported families and their Mentors to facilitate Milestone, Cornerstone, Life-Skills, and Keystone activities as safely as possible.

For example, Word of Honor Fund used technology
to connect children to their Mentors virtually on weekly Zoom® calls to overcome in-person limitations. These
weekly sessions brought children and their Mentors together regardless of their physical location, while Mentors provided children life lessons and skills-based instruction from the safety of their homes.

As part of our Life Skills event centered on environmental preservation, we planted 33 Trident Maple trees at Mt. Trashmore to honor our Naval Special Warfare fallen
Fathers. At the base of each tree is a plaque inscribed with each family’s name. The Word of Honor Fund – Honor Garden provides local and visiting families a peaceful place for tribute and quiet reflection.

Resiliency is at the core of our mission. Still, the persistent activity would not have been possible without the trust of our families, involvement from their Mentors, and the financial support from our donors. We hope our newsletter provides you a glimpse into our activities over the past year.

Thank you for your friendship and support. We look forward to seeing you all again soon. God bless you all.

Respectfully,

Louis Shepard
